The Light Fantastic
Here, we utilised a highly inventive way of illustrating how weight loss of the latest Mazda2 range improved performance, fuel consumption and, hopefully, fun.
Less Weight, More Fun to Drive.
At Mazda, we challenged the conventional way of thinking that says that to make a car faster, you need a bigger engine. We came at it from a different angle and challenged ourselves to create a Mazda2 that was 100kg lighter than its predecessor. How? By analysing thousands of components and then re-engineering every one that could be optimised to reduce weight and improve strength.
By sliding the slide on the right hand side, additional elements of the vehicle appear, adding just a little weight with each component – plus facts about the lightweight properties.
Engine and suspension -
Our dedication resulted in a suspension system that’s approx. 1.3kg lighter than before and gives a smoother, more agile and sportier ride - without compromising safety. The engine, too, not only feels livelier and more responsive but also offers greater fuel economy and lower CO2 emissions.
And now for the ‘body’ copy.
Bodyshell -
The use of high and ultra high tensile steel within the Mazda2 allowed for smaller body dimensions and a supremely rigid chassis that is 23kg lighter whilst improving collision safety.
Presenting the lighter, faster, more manoeuvrable, more efficient and ever-so eco-friendly Mazda2
The result? -
A car with greater linear acceleration, livelier response and a performance that’s ideal for day-to-day driving. It’s also more responsive, for greater manoeuvrability in town and cornering on twisting country roads. What’s more, CO2 emissions are lower - fuel economy improved and ultimately running costs are lower.
